Tobacco, drug and alcohol use in French Polynesia

To ensure a safe and stress-free trip, make sure you are in compliance with local drug and alcohol laws while traveling in Bora Bora or any other French Polynesian Island. The following is a brief guide.

Alcohol

The legal drinking age is 21.

Smoking

Generally, smoking is allowed outdoors, unless your resort limits it to designated smoking areas. You can’t smoke by the pool or in the restaurants.

Vaping

No laws regarding vaping.

Drugs

France does not have legal cannabis. Therefore French Polynesia also maintains its illegality. The growth, possession, sale, distribution, or conspiracy to distribute cannabis are crimes punishable by some uncomfortably long jail terms.
